WHY NOT LOUNGE IN STYLE?

Loungewear is often the most worn part of our wardrobe. Instead of throwing on head to toe grey, why not invest a little more in cute, comfy and chic items...

(see bottom of post for clothing details)
For the past three months, it feels like my wardrobe has consisted entirely of loungewear. Perhaps it's because of my "stay-at-home" status (darn COVID-19) or maybe I've been using said status as an excuse to take a breather from my usual daily wear.
Just because I swapped my favourite skirts for a pair of sweatpants didn't mean I had to sacrifice chic in order to be comfortable. Luckily, for all of us wanting to lounge in style, due to the increase in demand for loungewear many brands have been producing at an escalated rate. Yay! More clothes for us!
“Life is better in pajamas [or loungewear] " - Extremely Wise, Unknown Individual
Whoever said that "life is better in pajamas" was absolutely right. However, I tend to feel grouchy and unproductive in head to toe grey. If that's your style...go for it! But, if you are anything like me and need some semblance of normality to seize the day, check out my favorite loungewear brands.
Sundry- Stripes, camo, and beautiful cursive, oh my! The classic sweatpant and pullover set, fashioned with colourful stripes. I recommend sizing up on the bottoms (the legs tend to be a little tight). Their elasticized waists make it easy to go up a size without fearing a slip. Most variations have matching combinations... increase your chic coordinating ensemble.
Spiritual Gangster- Spiritual Gangster has been my long time go-to for loungewear. Their clothing comes in cutesy prints - lots of hearts, stars, rainbows and stripes - perfect for embracing your inner child but also for pairing with solid colours. Their sweatpants are light and breathable, yet have a soft lining to keep your legs warm. *In order to be situationally conscious, Spiritual Gangster also released a line of face coverings so that you can match your outfit to your mask.
Zara- Not a typical pick for loungewear but because of their fast fashion production strategy, Zara is able to quickly stock their stores with trendy picks. Ruffles and puff sleeves are making a comeback and Zara is certainly aware of this. Check out their cropped sweaters for a perfect pair to high waisted leggings.
Varley- I used to be a self-proclaimed Lululemon addict. That was until I discovered Varley. I can't tell you the amount of times that I have put on a Varley set to workout in, only to not want to change after. The definition of cute and comfortable, clothing from Varley doesn't slide and their neutral coloured leggings (anything snakeskin to florals to print-free) can be purchased with a matching top
Sweaty Betty- The British based activewear brand has a wide selection of leggings, workout tanks, and bike shorts, and also provides shoppers with fleece lined hoodies and fuzzy sweaters. My favourite pieces at Sweaty Betty are actually their sports bras. Bras designed for yoga often have less padding and are less restrictive than your typical sports bra, making them the perfect choice for an evening (or day) in. Sweaty Betty's yoga sports bras come in many different colours (neutrals or gemstone shades) and have options for the straps.
Minnie Rose- Cashmere is a girl's best friend. For the summer months, it's perfect as a pullover for windy nights on the beach. While in winter, it acts as the perfect layer in which to sip hot cocoa. Splurging on a cashmere popover is an investment you will not regret. Minnie Rose has a gorgeous selection of wraps and sweaters, all of which are easy to pair with sweatpants for lounging about the house or with a pair of dark wash denim jeans for errand-running. I won't forget to mention their most incredible selection of pom-pom slippers to keep your feet all snuggled up.
But Ally, where do I go to get these items? Well, most of these places have easy to navigate webpages, so you could start there. Or, if website hopping isn't really your thing, check out Shopbop, Revolve, Net- a- Porter, or even Bloomingdales. Each one sells many of the brands I have listed (and many more), and the best part is that you can add multiple different brands to your shopping bag to optimize your online efficiency! Shopbop is one of my personal go-to's for online "department shopping" because of their frequent discounts on sale items, as well as two-day free shipping with Amazon Prime.
We all have those days where all we want is to wear our grubbiest clothes and binge watch Killing Eve with no fear of spilling ice cream on our pretty clothes. But for the other six days of the week, there are so many adorable loungewear picks to make you feel your best and excel at work. Dressing up a little while still maintaining practicality allows you to expand your daily routine, and affords you the option to pop out to the shops or take the puppies for a walk around the park (and look fabulous doing so).
